Mud Mud Glorious MUD!!!!!!!

The Team headed up to Carlisle on monday to build 4 x 21ftx54 insulated polytunnels. Probably looking back we should have maybe chosen a different week to attempt these, (It being the wettest September since the 70's) but we had to battle on.

 

With the caravan all set up and plumed into the mains we started digging out the footings for three of the tunnels. 8 inches of slop and 12 inches of clarty clay.

 

 

By Tuesday the weather had set in again but we only had one set of footings left to dig in. We then started on building the tunnel.

 

 

 

Thursday was the day for sheeting with the wind topping 5mph so we managed to get 2 tunnels ready for it.

 

 

By the Friday we were insulating the tunnels and cleaning the mud off all the tools. We were probably a little too optimistic thinking we could get 4 built in 5 days but having 3 done was good enough given the rubbish conditions.

 

I will update with  this when the tunnels are finished.

Building in the big city

This week the team headed down to London to build a polytunnel for the Church of England archives center.

Somehow the satnav decided that the quickest route to the job was through central London but at 6am it was nice and quiet and we got to see the sights.

The structure we were building was to house archives from the 1400's and had to be built to the international standard for archive storage .

The structure was to be bolted down to a reinforced concrete base which took some drilling.

After Overcoming the odd obstacle I.e sprinkler system and huge concrete pillar we got it finished in just under 2days. The hardest part was getting out of London.

Last week of peace before a month of madness

Well hi from Total Polytunnls to our blog readers. I just thought id give a bit of an update as to what we are upto over the next few weeks.

 September is turning out to be our busiest month to date, Next week we are heading down to london to build a structure for the Church of England records office. We are actually building this inside their building. We will be putting some pictures up here and in our gallery section at:

Towards the middle of September we are heading upto Brampton in Cumbria to construct 4 polytunnels for an organic food producer.

We are then going to the Lake District to build a polytunnel for one of the big lakeside attractions.

Always nice to have repeat business

The team ventures over to lincolne this weekend to construct a tunnel for a client we have worked for before. we left from Ingleton at 4am and arrived for 7am. by 1pm we were homeward bound. www.totalpolytunnels.co.uk

Old growing tunnel becomes new sheep tunnel

Over the last couple of weeks we have been working on an old six bay multispan converting it into some sheep housing. as you can see side rails were added so ventilation netting could be fitted to keep the summer temperatures down.

 The  polythene supplied by XL Horticulture is from their smart green range and could still be used for growing if needed.

 The front of the tunnel was left as open as possible to keep plenty of airflow circulating round.
